ABOUT THE ARTIST

Glasgow-based artist David Gilliver delves into captivating miniature worlds through his macro photography series. Graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 2001, Gilliver specialises in capturing intriguing visual narratives using tiny figurines. His work, both playful and poetic, is exhibited regularly across the UK and internationally, captivating audiences with its intricate details and emotional depth.
Although David is also a gifted ‘Light Painter’, he is best known for his "Little People" series, where he stages miniature figurines in realistic or surreal settings. These photographs create complex microcosms that play with scale and perspective, evoking both wonder and reflection.
His mastery of macrophotography brings these tiny characters to life, allowing him to tell stories through meticulously crafted scenes. This series has earned him numerous accolades, including the British Photography Award in the Macro category in 2022 and 2023.
David’s work has received some very welcome attention over the years which has led to him becoming involved in some very exciting projects around the world. Highlights of the past few years include having some of his photography stocked by several major retail outlets in the UK, as well as creating bespoke commissioned work for Samsung, Sony, Adobe, Lexus, e.l.f. Cosmetics and the annual Festival of Light in Riyadh.
As well as regularly exhibiting his work, David also runs regular Creative Photography Workshops at the Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge, Scotland.
