About The Artwork
expand_more
"Pipe Smoker" is a striking small-scale acrylic on canvas that captures quiet intensity within a bold, cubist-inspired composition. The subject, defined by angular lines and fragmented planes, holds his pipe with a sense of contemplation, evoking both wisdom and solitude. Deep teal, earthy browns, and golden yellows are layered with strong black outlines, creating contrast and rhythm that draw the viewer into the figure’s inner world.
Though modest in size, this work carries the presence of a much larger piece. Its compact format makes it versatile for display, while its emotional weight ensures it remains a focal point. Symbolic of reflection and resilience, "Pipe Smoker" embodies Achamallah’s ability to distill human character into powerful geometric abstraction. Collectors will find in it both strength and subtle introspection, qualities that resonate beyond the canvas.

Nagui Achamallah's artistic journey is one that spans continents and disciplines.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Nagui’s passion for painting blossomed during his college years, leading him to immerse himself in the independent fine art study program at the University of Alexandria Atelier while pursuing his medical degree. This dual pursuit of art and medicine would profoundly shape his artistic perspective.
Throughout his academic years, Nagui’s talent garnered recognition, with participation in university group exhibitions and competitions, accompanied by notable scholastic awards. In 1973, he unveiled his inaugural solo exhibition at the University Physician's Club, followed by another in 1975 at the prestigious French Cultural Center in Alexandria.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Nagui embarked on a fulfilling career in psychiatry, a profession that he believes significantly influenced his approach to painting. Now semi-retired from medical practice, he resides in Southern California, where he devotes his time to his art.
Nagui’s prolific output reflects his unwavering dedication to his craft, producing a substantial body of work comprising medium and large-scale paintings, alongside numerous smaller pieces and drawings annually.
