About The Artwork
expand_more
This painting is inspired by an imaginary interview with Vincent van Gogh, standing in front of his Sunflowers. His response to the question, “How does it feel to be famous, Mr. Van Gogh?” is written at the bottom of the piece.
“I saw the Van Gogh exhibition in London a while ago—it was incredible, but I left with a deep sense of sadness. The crowds were so massive around some of his paintings that it was impossible to get close and really take them in. The walls were covered with articles debating his style—was it shaped in London or Paris?”
This painting reflects on how we often fail to appreciate people while they’re still alive—something that, tragically, Vincent himself never got to experience.

About the artist

Melinda is a London based artist, she was born as an ethnic Hungarian in Romania in 1976. In 2009 she graduated from the University of Art and Design, Cluj-Napoca receiving her BA in Fine Art, Painting. She earlier studied Fresco Painting and worked until 2012 as a mural painter in churches of Transylvania. She moved to England in 2013.
Melinda’s interest in psychology and her research for understanding the source that adds meaning to ones life is one of the major influences in her work. Her main focus is the human condition, the internal world one experiences amidst the expectations of society.
In her creative process colour and texture are equally important, as well as the deconstruction of forms which allows her to find an equilibrium between figuration and abstraction. Though she considers herself a figurative painter, the dynamism she creates through breaking up the forms sometimes make her work look abstract from a close view.
