Fresh Water On The Estuary

This is the Lune estuary in Lancashire. The painting captures the hazy summer afternoon at low tide. The cows roam the marsh land and after heavy rain know they can slake their thirst from the fresh water filling the small fishing boats. The Large expanse of the landscape is expressed through the strong horizontals that run through the composition as well as the use of ariel perspective where the fells can just be seen in the distance.
