TOBI BECK

Tobi Beck is a self-taught acrylic painter in Southern California. Inspired by industrial city landscapes and the urban environment, her marks are reminiscent of alleyways, stained brick, and ripped stickers on light poles; memories, observations, and feelings from growing up in the projects of South Boston - a grit that infuses her abstract style.

With intuition and spontaneity, Tobi draws out emotion and visual texture in her work with scrapers, palette knives, dirty water, and broken brushes.

“Abstraction. I’m all about it. The rawness of it. The spontaneity of it. The openness and freedom that comes from letting go. In this limitless space, I don’t have to be uptight and overthink or control. In fact, it’s the one place I drop my shoulders to easily be with all my questions and worries, frustration and tears. Nothing is off limits. Everything is welcomed, encouraged, and used.”

Seven of Tobi’s works were procured by NBC/Universal and can be seen on the Peacock TV series “Based on a True Story”. Most recently, she was selected to exhibit at The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles for both the spring and fall editions and frequently exhibits her work locally at SCAA Gallery in Old Town Newhall, California. Tobi has been an in-store featured artist at West Elm LA in Beverly Hills and is currently serving as Gallery Chair for the Santa Clarita Artists Association overseeing a calendar of 17 group and solo exhibitions in contribution back to the arts community where she resides.
