ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Sweden, Maria Granadino is a visual artist whose work is influenced by a life lived across many countries. Currently back in Sweden, her journey with art began at an early age, sparked by a deep interest in both music and artistic expression, which she often intertwined. Her artistic path took shape in the United Kingdom, where she earned a BA in Art and multimedia from Regent’s University London. Additionally, she has pursued graduate-level studies in Art History and Aesthetics at Uppsala University in Sweden, which brings a philosophical dimension to her work. While her global experiences inform her artistic perspective, her Indigenous and Afro-Carib heritage remains a central, subtle influence on her body of work.
Granadino's artistry is characterized by its abstract and geometric style, incorporating biomorphic shapes and modernist plasticity. She draws inspiration from diverse sources, including everyday experiences in nature, fragmentation, soft and structured forms, Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican art, and metaphysics. Through her exploration of fragmentation, the subconscious, and the delicate balance between nature and abstraction, Granadino’s work meditates on the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. Using warm earth tones and abstract forms, she evokes a sense of mystery, merging hard and soft shapes that traditionally suggest masculine and feminine qualities, which she breaks apart to play with movement and space. Her art asks viewers to connect with the world through the mystic language of abstraction, creating reflections that allow each individual to engage with their surroundings of nature and our humanity on a deeper level.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, in countries such as the United Kingdom, Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, and Italy.
