ABOUT THE ARTIST
Louise O’Gorman is a photographer from Ireland.
Since graduating with an honors degree in photography over 25 years ago, Louise has had the privilege of living and working as a photographer in various capacities, across different countries. These experiences have enriched her perspective and allowed her to immerse herself in various cultures while documenting diverse stories and lifestyles through her lens.
Her personal practice draws on these experiences and her images celebrate both life's emotional and physical journeys.
By using her camera she captures the evolving essence of these journeys through various places and spaces. Her images are influenced by her love for early photographic techniques along with modern and traditional painting styles. She uses natural light and techniques such as slow shutter speeds to carefully construct and capture moments. Digital experimentation allows her to infuse these methods through layering to tell a story, represent memories and to aesthetically enrich the images visually appeal.
Using herself as the subject in her figurative work, she uses her physical presence to tell stories of these experiences and emotions.
Rather than being self portraits as such, she uses her body in a more all encompassing way where she engages the viewers emotions through a more symbolic approach.
Her photographs have have been featured on several book covers, appeared in blogs, magazines and newspapers and form part of private collections.
She has shown her work in individual and group exhibitions internationally and has worked on public and private commissions.
